The DNA Detectives Announces the Kits of Kindness Donation Program

**The KOK program has been temporarily put on hold as of 3/15/2020. Thank you for your understanding.**

On 1 Jan 2016, The DNA Detectives introduced the Kits of Kindness DNA testing kit donation program. To date, the program has been responsible for over 1000 people receiving donated DNA kits. As a direct result of this program, many have discovered and reunited with previously unknown biological family members and/or gained closure to self-identity questions.

The DNA Detectives Kits of Kindness Program was established to facilitate donations from those who wish to assist in purchasing DNA kits for those searching for birth family who cannot afford to DNA test. In many cases, donations come from those who have received volunteer help in their searches and wish to "pay-it-forward." We also receive regular donations from members of the genetic genealogy and adoption search communities who support our goals.

If you would like to donate a kit please write to us at kits@TheDNADetectives.com. Monetary donations of any amount can be sent through PayPal to kits@TheDNADetectives.com or through this link:
click here. One hundred percent of monetary donations go toward kit purchases and mailing costs. (Please note that DNA Detectives is not a 501(3)(c), so this is not a tax deductible, charitable donation.) If you have a kit on hand that you would like to donate to someone through our program, please contact us at the above address for an address to which to mail it.

In order for us to be efficient, all requests for donated kits must be made by filling out an application at this link: https://tinyurl.com/KOKapp

Requests sent to any other email address, through a Facebook account message or in the comments below will not be accepted. Requests are reviewed about once every two weeks and approved recipients are placed on a waiting list, so please do not expect an immediate response to your email. If the request is urgent, please include that in your subject line.

Priority for donated kits goes to members of the DNA Detectives Facebook group who are searching for immediate birth family and are experiencing financial difficulties. Other types of requests are also considered. We prefer to hear directly from the person who needs the test, but will accept third party requests if the person in need does not have access to a computer.

When submitting a request, please include:

-- The details of your birth family search and what other methods you have already tried previously
-- If you are adopted, please include the the state and year of your birth
-- The reason for your inability to purchase a DNA kit
-- Your Facebook profile (if you have one)
-- The mailing address where you would like the kit sent. Please separate this out from the rest of the text so it is easy to see and use appropriate punctuation to ensure the kit arrives at the intended destination.

Requests can be made for any of the four autosomal DNA testing kits, AncestryDNA, 23andMe, MyHeritage DNA and/or Family Tree DNA's Family Finder as well as the Family Tree DNA Y-37 kit for males. (We typically recommend starting with the AncestryDNA kit due to the size of their database, so most of the kits provided to our recipients have, so far, been from AncestryDNA.)

Thank you to all of those who have supported the Kits of Kindness Program in the past and those who will do so in the future! The program and your support of it is making a difference in many lives.

  1. Without a doubt one of the best programs in the world helping many find and reunite the families of thousands of : orphans, adoptees, daughters and sons of biological donors, kidnapped, switched at birth, including unknown births through no fault of their own or their parents. So many parents are also looking for their offspring. I hope this Kits of kindness program lives through the ages. I am proud and appreciative of the people running this program, I have personally benefited from their generosity in order to find my paternal family. so thank you to CeCe Moore, DD staff and the generous financial donors behind it. 2. Hey if you'd ever wanted to explore your roots, find lost family members, or explore your ethnicity this is the year to do so, and while you're at it why not save some money in the process, and in a round about way bless those that can't afford to purchase a DNA kit. I tell you this is a great program that has blessed me. And DNA Detectives ia a wonderful, powerful life changing group. AWESOME JUST AWESOME!!! Once again THANK YOU!!!!

  5. Thanks to this wonderful program I was able to take my DNA test from Ancestry late last summer. I am a adoptee from Florida which is a closed state so we don't have access to our original birth certificate yet. Thanks to this program and the help of a special search angel I was able to find my birth mothers side of my family. I am in touch with that side of my family and it is priceless! This is a great program to support people and help them find their roots.

  6. I have never heard anything about your group. What a great idea. I go to an annual genealogy conference, it would be great if the big DNA providers would donate a kit for say, every 5 kits they sell at conferences. Might persuade people to purchase a kit at the conference if they knew their purchase was paying it forward! Next kit I order will be through your site.

  11. My father was adopted. We know who his birth mother was, but no bf listed on adoption documents. BM never married but rumor has it she had another child, a daughter after my father, though no record of adoption exists. So wish we could find out who his birth father was and where we come from...that side of our family is a dark mystery. The cost for DNA testing is beyond my budget. I am hopeful to be accepted by the Kits of Kindness program.

    1. Is your father’s birth mother still living & where was he born. My BM also never married but I don’t know of her having any other children. It could be possible because no one knew about me either.

  12. my husband son was given up at birth he has told me about him from the very being. We never looked for him because my husband did not want to interupt his life. My husband has dementia but still remembers his son was given up. And has asked me to find him. I am trying but I think the DNA testing should help. The mother will not help cause her current husband did not know she gave up a child. money is tight due to care givers. So I would like to request a kit. Thank you

  13. 1st I want to Thank ALL of you on these groups that are working wonders in SO many peoples lives.
I am praying that I will be able to find my niece with my Ancestry DNA test results, that I was so Blessed with the gift of the kit from Elizabeth Passmore. As we found each other on this site & we both thought that she possibly was my niece, found out she isn't biologically my deceased brother's daughter, but she is in my heart! & I will be forever Thankful for her! As she says that I will be her Special Auntie! I'm praying that I will be able to get some help from some search Angels or someone as soon as I get back my test results bc I have no idea how to do it,& that this will prayefully find my niece & that she too is wanting to find her bio family.
My brother was searching for her before he unexpectedly passed away in June 2016, & I have contacted his x girlfriend & her sister with no reply from either, & it just breaks my heart worse!
My niece was born in Ft.Wayne,IN & was about a 8lb+ baby girl with lots of dark hair, was born right around father's day weekend in 1975 or 1976, which this is where I am having the problem with the facts, due to my mom's memory & mine too, bc of so many things that was going on back then bc I was only 14 or 15 yrs old when she was born. She was adopted through the Catholic charities. My brother Terry W. Havener whom is the bio father was either 16 or 17 when she was born & his x girlfriend is Diane (won't reveal last name unless I can) both from New Haven, IN. I think she was 16 also? Anyway I will be praying for her and everyone else on here searching! I will also be using these links on here to help with the information & family tree. I will be paying it forward to someone else as soon as I can!
I'm so happy that you get some of the proceeds from these sites to help with this wonderful program! Bless you ALL. Julia G. Havener
